Comments
When visitors post comments, we collect the information submitted in the comment form along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent to help detect spam.

We may send an anonymised hash of your email to the Gravatar service to check whether you use Gravatar. See Gravatar’s privacy policy at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile image may be publicly visible next to your comment.

Media
Do not upload images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS) if you do not want that information exposed. Visitors can download images and extract any embedded location data.

Cookies
When you leave a comment you can choose to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience so you don’t need to re-enter them next time. These cookies last one year.

Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies; it contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set cookies to remember your login status and display preferences. Login cookies last two days; screen options cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps you logged in for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.

If you edit or publish a post, an additional temporary cookie is stored that contains the post ID; it contains no personal data and expires after one day.

Embedded content from other sites
Articles may include embedded content (for example, videos, images, or articles). Embedded content behaves the same as if you visited the other site directly. Those third-party sites may collect data about you, use cookies, apply additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including if you are logged into that third-party site.

Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we keep your data
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so we can automatically recognise and approve follow-up comments rather than hold them in moderation.

If you register on the site, we store the personal information you provide in your user profile. Registered users can view, edit, or delete their personal data at any time (except usernames). Site administrators can also view and edit that information.

Your rights
If you have an account or have left comments, you may request an export of the personal data we hold about you, including data you provided. You may also request deletion of your personal data, subject to any records we must retain for legal, administrative, or security reasons.

Where your data is sent
Comments may be checked by an automated spam detection service.
